Save the Date–Lighthouse

March 6, 2012 - Leave a Response

So in previous posts I had mentioned that 2011 was the year of engagements. People both close to me, distant or long lost friends–let’s just say the face book status changes from “single” or “in a relationship” to “engaged” were a regular occurrence!

Its pretty cool to think that even though you may not see or hear from people from high school or college all that often, that you can do something for them based on the career path you have chosen. It almost seems surreal to think of having your old friends being able to help you out in different aspects in life. This was one of those instances. The feeling itself is hard to describe–the involvement in making someone’s idea come to life, especially for someone that you were close with a long time ago–it’s exciting, touching to be asked and of course gratifying to be able to share your skill.

When I was approached, I was elated to be able to help out the couple with their save the date. Their wedding is set to be in Long Beach Island but in the off season. So they were looking for something that showcased the island, but not exactly the starfish, beach chair type of style. They had the idea of a utilizing a lighthouse but as far formats went, that is where I came in. We went over ideas such as bookmarks, magnets and so on but to illustrate what they were going for. The final decision was made based on my idea of a postcard. After researching, I was able to find a photo where we bought rights to and through photoshop treatments, I was able to create an old fashioned shore postcard feel. Take a look.

Her color scheme is showcased through the use of a dark orange.

Like I said, there is no better feeling than to be able to help someone with their special day. Their reaction to the printed piece was something that I strive for and what keeps me going.

My own Save the Date

So like I said, 2011 was a year full of engagements–myself included! I thought what better way to honor Valentine’s Day than to (exactly 6 months-to the date of our engagement) post my fiance’ Jeff & my Save the Date for our wedding!

Believe me I was all over the place in trying to think of a creative Save the Date. Our wedding is taking place in the shore area, but not on the beach. I went back and forth in trying to make something that can be re-used, something unique but for some reason I felt a lot of pressure which of course was nothing but self-induced.

So what did I end up with? a 5×7 postcard. But not just any postcard…

Sure I do a lot of work for other people but I find that  items for my own wedding seem to be way more difficult! I never realized how indecisive I can be! I had this vision in my head of Jeff and I being out and having a casual picture taken. We opted out of engagement photos so I wasn’t sure if this would happen. I wanted something different, something that was personal and if possible something that showed off my bling??!? haha

Luckily, I have one of the greatest bosses on the planet and he helped me make my vision come to life!

What I love most about this Save the Date is that its different. Yes its a postcard but it is definitely not something you see everyday. I have actually been told that it looks like a bar advertisement? The logo itself has a double meaning which again–I could not have asked for anything better! I can’t wait to have this logo made into barware for our new home!

The back includes hotels, location of the ceremony and so on.

She Said Yes!

2011 was a year full of engagements if I say so myself. I know in my personal life, many close friends and family members have received their bling (too!)

With that said, with an Engagement sometimes follows a party! My future sister-in-law came to me in need of an invitation for her sister who was recently engaged. After listening to the proposal story–I chose this wording:

I of course got rid of any personal information for the sake of confidentiality. I hope they were surprised!
